Davis Executed For 1994 Brutal Murder

STARKE (by Alan McBride/FLA. NEWS NETWORK) -- Death row inmate Eddie Wayne Davis was put to death Thursday evening for a murder committed in 1994.
The execution, described as routine and uneventful, took place after a final appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court was rejected.
According to case records, Davis was convicted in 1995 of kidnapping, raping, and killing the 11-year-old daughter of his ex-girlfriend.
The mother had broken up with Davis after learning that he had served two earlier prison sentences in connection with a string of burglaries, according to court documents.
The case indicated that Davis kidnapped and killed the daughter of the ex-girlfriend approximately six months after the break-up.
Davis had a recent appeal turned down after being sent back to a ,lower court for review.
His attorneys had contended that he suffered from porphyria, and that one of the drugs in Florida's lethal cocktail would cause him excruciating pain.
A medical expert testified that Davis would not be conscious long enough to suffer, and the state's injunction against cruel and unusual punishment would not be violated.
