Florida's High School Graduation Rate Improves

(by Larry Spilman/FLA. NEWS NETWORK) - Florida's high school graduation rate is improving according to a new report, but still lags behind the national average.

Florida's graduation rate in 2012 was 75%-- up from 59% in 2004. That's a big improvement but it's still below the national graduation rate of 80% in 2012 from federal figures gathered in the annual Building a Grad Nation report.

It's the first time in U-S history that 80% of students have graduated four years after they started high school.

Florida is doing better than Georgia at 70% and Louisiana at 72% but below North Carolina at 80% and Texas whose high school graduation rate is 88%. Florida's graduation rate is on a par with Mississippi and South Carolina.
